Trial and Appellate Attorneys and Counselors for Marine Businesses in Kentucky

Paducah, Kentucky, near the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, is an important inland river port and center for marine commerce. Western Kentucky and its Land Between the Lakes also hosts extensive recreational boating and marinas. Goldstein and Price, L.C. has represented barge and towing companies, shipyards, marinas and a host of other marine companies in Paducah and other parts of Kentucky for decades.

We are experienced trial and appellate lawyers in the state and federal courts in Kentucky. By way of example, in Pastor Mercado v. Paducah River Painting, Inc. and James Marine, Inc. (decided December 19, 2014), we obtained summary judgment for our clients, which was affirmed by the Kentucky Court of Appeals, against an injured barge painter and sand blaster who claimed he was a Jones Act seaman because he had performed some of his work on the river.

We are frequently asked by marine companies in Kentucky to advise and represent them in connection with:

  • selling and chartering towboats, barges and marine equipment;
  • marine insurance coverage questions;
  • regulatory issues;
  • buying and selling real property; and other legal concerns that affect their businesses.

As counselors and transactional lawyers, one of our goals is to help clients grow their companies and develop practices and procedures that avoid or minimize exposure to claims, lawsuits, and regulatory enforcement proceedings.

Bob Nienhuis, one of our members, has almost forty years of experience as a maritime litigator and counselor. Bob is a member of the Kentucky Bar. Other attorneys in our firm have been admitted to practice pro hac vice and also have extensive experience in Kentucky.
